I don't think you can brick it; I have read around and its good to update
the firmware first from the official DSTV satellites, then note them down
and start tinkering. There aren't any default settings. The decoder is sort
of a standard mpeg digital decoder with the added smart card and pointed to
DSTV beams; add a hard disk and you have a PVR. Worst case scenario you can
call the DSTV guys who hopefully will be able to set it up again for you.
I have been REALLY trying to tinker with the now useless GTV decoder to see
any way that some money can be made (bring in your GTV decoder and subscribe
to my services :) ) still tinkering, anyone with some knowledge? karibu.
