[Skunkworks] Making Mail App the default mailer on OS X

I hope there are Apple users here - like Brian Munyao:-)

I'm assisting a colleague to make Mail App the default mailer on OS X, such that when in, say, MS Word, he decides to send the document to someone, Mail App would be launched.
From "Go ogle", it tells me that I need to open Mail App and go to  preferences, then chose Mail App, like detailed on http://bit.ly/cN6aTv. However this does not seem to achieve the desired result.

Any other idea??
